GoPro Race Driver Tyler McQuarrie Wins GTS Class in Toyo World Challenge Race at Long Beach

Long Beach, Calif., April 19, 2010 – GoPro® sponsored race driver, Tyler McQarrie, celebrated his first World Challenge victory at Long Beach in a Lotus Exige S from LPL Motorsports. This was Tyler’s first World Challenge race and also marks the first win at Long Beach for Lotus since Mario Andretti in 1978. Having received the car just five weeks before the race, Tyler’s team worked around the clock to prepare the car. The team effort helped Tyler qualify the LPL Motorsports Lotus on pole and an eventual flag to flag win in the race.

“The team pulled all nighters and really worked their butts off to get the car ready. I cannot be more thrilled with the way things turned out. I had my HD HERO camera mounted to the side of my helmet during the race and qualifying and I’m stoked to be able to watch it when I get home both to relive the win and see where I could have gone faster.”

“This is a huge win for Tyler and we’re fired up to watch his GoPro footage and relive his win in HD. Knowing Tyler from the track, this victory comes as no surprise. He’s a world class race driver and I’d expect him to be fighting for wins in any competitive car he drives. Hopefully the rest of us can learn a thing or two from watching his GoPro video.”

The race will be broadcasted on the VERSUS cable network on May 1 at 4:30 PM Eastern.

GoPro is also a sponsor of the Falken Tire drift team, which Tyler is a member.

Mark Burnett, five-time Emmy award winner and avid GoPro customer, said in a previous statement, "We have used GoPro cameras in some of our biggest productions, like Survivor and The Bible. GoPro has allowed us to capture and share fascinating new perspectives that previously weren’t possible or were too costly, which in the end makes for better story telling. We are always excited to see what GoPro is working on next."

"In a world of smartphones and increasingly small cameras, GoPro is still the film fans device of choice and the rugged gadget that will launch the careers of many future directors. If in doubt, check out the home made rocket that took a GoPro to space or the shark footage, both on YouTube." - T3 Award for the GoPro HERO3
